Overview of Lake Barracuda

The way to Lake Barracuda is small and narrow as if it was just carved on towering black limestone cliffs. The wooden stairway went up and down and in some parts, you had to brace yourself on the rough limestone walls.

Just before the lake's opening is a hole filled with blue green water. As you continue on the stairway, your eyes adjust to a wider space without the limestone walls closing in on you, Lake Barracuda's calm, clear and bluish green water makes you want to just stare in awe. From the boardwalk, limestone cliffs still tower above you and go down below the water as far as your eyes will allow.

Lake Barracuda's water is a mix of fresh water, warm salt water and hot salt water at the bottom. Temperature at the bottom is at 30 to 38 degrees Celsius. One diver described it as a sauna underwater.

Brion H. wrote about Emerald Pool:

"The pictures of this place made us want to come to Dominica, but it wasn't as amazing as I was hoping. Still very cool to see. This is one of the most popular places to visit on the island, so there are many people in the pool taking photos (popular spot for cruise ships due to short walk). On the day we were there, the water was grey and it was too crowded. I would still recommend you visit, but also visit Victoria Falls (less crowded and larger falls).
