Overview of Soufriere-Scotts Head Marine Reserve (SSMR)
SSMR was established in 1998 to protect and preserve the spectacular underwater reefs. The bay is an extinct volcanic crater whose walls drop to an unchartered bright blue depth with active underwater fumaroles and expansive coral reefs. Perfect for snorkeling and diving.
"This was a cool spot where you can stand between the Caribbean Sea & the Atlantic ocean. The snorkeling was great! The water was clear & there were tons of fish. Some people in our group went on a hike up the hill. Sometimes you can see sea turtles and dolphins around this area (is what we were told by locals)."
"Snorkeling was very good. Go out towards the point on the Caribbean side, and then come back towards the white buoy. The sea wall drops off so deep that you can't see the bottom, only a bright blue glow. Very cool!"
